My goal was to paint something only using two items with multiple color changes. I chose a Macintosh Apple and a silver canning funnel. Those choices made thing a little more difficult but the spiral peel is what caught my interest. I took a photo of the still life to paint from because the peel kept moving.  

I love painting multiple colors next to each other but when you use complimentary colors you need to keep your brush clean. Complimentary colors can darken one and another which is ok if done right but if that is not the intent it can look dirty.

This is a still life painting in which I used a halo orange and a piece of my last geranium of the season. Right now the geranium is in the garage but I do not think it will last the winter. We had such a warm fall that I did not have the heart to throw it in the recycle bag when it looked so great. This is my way of preserving a piece of it. As for the halo oranges they have become my favorite fruit now (since I can not get fresh home grown strawberries in the winter). The halo oranges peal so easy and taste so good.

Bee Balms are one of my favorite flowers. I love their pointing petals and crazy tops. I am not crazy about all the bees they attract so I paint them rather than plant them. When I saw a photo of a hummingbird with bee balms I had to paint it. The hummingbird with its' long beak compliments the pointing petals of the bee balm so well. Why the clothes pin? Well it just happen to be in the sewing box when I was looking for objects to paint. I liked the wood and metal straight lines which helped the composition since my goal was to create a balanced design with curved and straight lines. The little mouse was made by my mother decades ago and added a little whimsical notion to the whole design.

I completed the iris today. I spent about two hours going over the whole painting. This is a slower process. Towards the end I am adjusting colors with some glazing and painting with more nuggets of color. I check highlights to make sure they are clean and bright. I look for any muddy colors and correct them with a fresh stroke of color. I did add a discord color with the blue to draw attention to areas but only in small amounts. I also added a tint of lemon green to reflective parts. This has to be done very carefully or it can quickly muddy things up. These multi color pansies are vibrate and disco like. They make an excellent addition to my big flowers on small boards. When you look at them do you feel the urge to tap your fingers or toes?

This is the third painting in my series of large flowers on small boards. I used one of my own lily photos. These lovely white oriental lilies are usually my last lilies to bloom. They do have a purple tint to the edges and the white reflects a lot of color. I really pushed the tints in this painting and need to leave it for today. If I feel it is too strong I will probably glaze white over some of the tints in the center when it drys a bit.

This is kind of a Christmas painting but the subject matter makes it year round. It is also a painting you could hang any directions. I almost posted it upside down. This would be a good challenge to viewers. Let them see it one way than turn it a half turn and the next time they view it will they notice? I hope you enjoy viewing my little painting of these green apples rolling around the checkered cloth. I love the way the cloth folds around the apples and the apples reflect the pattern and each other. Everything compliments each other.

This is my porch geranium this year. I took many photos for references plus I brought the plant in when I painted this. I like have both to paint from, more options the better. 

 I always remember my Aunt Lucille potting red geraniums and placing them on her front steps. I grew up across the street and they are forever etch into my memory. The blossoms of geraniums always stand out against their wonderful, large green leaves.
