Original Oil Painting Pepper Corn

Pepper Corn

14" x 18
Painted on linen board.

I painted this from a still life I created. I posted a photo of the still life below. I really like the contrast textures the items have and I hope others do too! It was so much fun painting the kernels and hair of the corn cob and the bold colors of the peppers.

Original Oil Painting Hummingbird Bee Bop

Hummingbird Bee Bop

Sold
10" x 10"
Painted on gessobord.

Bee Balms are one of my favorite flowers. I love their pointing petals and crazy tops. I am not crazy about all the bees they attract so I paint them rather than plant them. When I saw a photo of a hummingbird with bee balms I had to paint it. The hummingbird with its' long beak compliments the pointing petals of the bee balm so well. I used Linda Anderson's photo posted on PaintMyPhoto as a reference. The photo is posted below. Thanks Linda for sharing your wonderful photos!

Original Oil Painting Oriental Lily in a Snifter Glass

Oriental Lily in a Snifter Glass

Sold

9" x 12"
Painted on gessobord.

Here is one of my oriental lilies that grow in my front yard. Their fragrance is quiet potent so I painted it from a photo and now it sits in my garage. It is a good thing the snifter glass can not smell.

I added the dark red cherries to compliment the dark tips in the center of the lily. The cherries are probably wondering why they are not in the glass, maybe next time. Thanks for viewing my Oriental Lily in a Snifter Glass and if you do plant any oriental lilies be prepared for some strong fragrances.

Original Oil Painting Fruit Maze

Fruit Maze

Sold

12" x 12"
Painted on gessobord.

I have been busy lately but found some time to paint fruit. The kiwi fruit is always a fun challenge with its yellow green and blue green color, pattern with seeds and its' fuzzy outer skin. The biggest challenge I found was the composition. It took me over an hour to arrange the fruit and get the lighting correct. I decided to try a warmer light with this composition which in my mind gives it a softer look. Thanks for viewing my fruit maze!

Original Oil Painting Fireworks Tulip

Firecracker Tulip

Sold

10" x 10"
Painted on a gessobord.

Well, it is the next day and I am calling it done. If I work on it more I feel it might look over-worked.  My goal was to capture the sheen the tulip petals have. I am happy with my attempt at capturing one of  Mother Nature's beauties. I hope others agree.

I also re-titled this painting from Wild and Crazy Tulip to Firecracker Tulip. It was painted around the Fourth of July and seems to fit that title more. Thanks Deirdre McDowell for the idea!!

I was working from a photo I took at Evergreen. I posted it below.
