Original Oil Painting Strawberry Boat

Strawberry Boat
Sold

9" x 12"
Painted on gesso panel.

I painted this using a still life photo I took a week ago.  I usually like to take many still life photos at once. I chose a set-up I like and proceed to paint. I do not delete the other photos because I can paint them later. I just won't have the objects sitting in front of me.

Original Oil Painting Rancher

 Rancher

This is a portrait painting for a class using a photo as a reference. I like the satisfied look the rancher has.

Original Oil Painting Touch Fruitball

Touch Fruitball

10" x 10"

Sold

I finished my fruit painting today. When I finish a painting I am looking at color values, edges, shadows and blending. I call it Touch Fruitball because it reminds me of touch football. The football in this case is the orange and the pear and banana want it.

What is next?

This is one way I start a painting. I first sketch it in with transparent red oxide or any other transparent paint. Then I usually start with the background mapping in the color. When I work with fruit I decided to use a palette knife and keep the colors very bold, opaque and clean. The next day I will soften or blend colors and work on edges. I try not to paint any more than two hours at a time. If I go longer than that I have a tendency to lick it down more (paint things over and over again) and loose the initial feeling I had for this image. The still life I am painting is very warm and colorful. The vintage table cloth is the same one I used in my "Tomato and Scallions" painting. My goal is to keep this painting very colorful and play full with a neutral background.

Original Oil Painting Copper and Onions

Copper and Onions

16" x 20"

Painted on stretch canvas.

I added the final touches to the still life. I darken the background on the cloth and brighten the high-lighten part of the cloth. I also brighten some areas of the side of the copper I thought looked a little dirty. I am happy with the results so I am calling it finished.  Yeah!!

Original Oil Painting Strawberry Splits Melon

Strawberry Splits Melon

Sold
10" x 10"
Painted on gesso panel.

I painted this from a still life in the studio. The glass is my son's but the fruit is mine. I really like how the glass reflects everything around it. The bottom of the glass has a circular pattern that shows through the curved smooth glass. I found this very interesting to paint.
The title came from the idea of rock, paper, scissors but this time it was glass, melon, strawberry.

Original Oil Painting Black Vase and Fruit

Black Vase and Fruit

12" x 12"

This is the best photo I took of the painting. I still think it looks better in person but it is very close.

Original Oil Painting Peaches and Pansies

Peaches and Pansies

12" x 12"

Sold

Here is another painting I made for my master class. I thought the copper would give me the most problems but it was the peaches. I can not tell you how many times I scraped off the paint on the front two peaches, I lost count. I seem to do more second guessing. Doing this for a course and knowing it will be critiqued has that affect on me. Taking this course keeps me on my toes and that is a good thing!

Original Oil Painting Three Pears

Three Pears

9" x 12"
Sold

Today I added the glaze on top of the right pear. I toned it down just enough with out loosing the color. I now like the way the green and orange pear relate to each other.
