Original Oil Painting: Moo not Boo

I guess Halloween is still on my mind, hence the title: Moo not Boo.

I have been thinking about doing a cow portrait for sometime. There are so many nice cow paintings out there. I thought how could I express a different view of one?

I am still working on creating my own style. I like using multiple colors to express a shape but so do other artist. What makes me think I am different?

Here is another painting for my series on birds. Thanks to Lawrence Splitter's reference photo posted below. I love doing these quick fun bird painting. This one being so colorful, really helps me get through the month of January. Now that the days are getting longer, I am going to do another commission portrait. Unfortunately I will not be able to post the portrait until the buyer gives the OK.

I do not get the chance to paint with so many nuggets of pure color to often. So when I saw this colorful character, I could not resist painting him. The background was done very abstractly which complements the rooster well. I was going to just title it: Rooster but with all the colors; wild just had to be added.

Original Oil Painting Cardinal in the Pines

I was really surprised one day when I saw a cardinal in the pine tree behind the house. I ran for my camera but missed the shot. So I just got the pine branch. It was a wonderful sunny day and the branch seem to reach out to the sun. I decided to paint the image I first saw with the photo I had and a cardinal reference photo I found on Paint My Photo. I was very lucky to find a photo of a cardinal that looked just like the one I saw. I painted the branch as loose as I could using quite a lot of paint. Then I rubbed out a place for the bird. The cardinal has more of a dry brush stroke to capture the soft feathery look.
