These are some of my lilies. They all bloom in the middle of summer. I took several pictures of them for later references. This painting was based on one of those reference photos. Lilies are a favorite of mine. They make excellent cut flowers because they are so sturdy and their bold colors are always a joy to paint. The vase is a rummage find from a long time ago. I can not believe this is the first time I painted it.  Thanks for viewing my lily painting.

I love this vase! It is so elegant and the color reminds me of old church pews. I thought the vase would be hard to paint but it was the dogwood flowers. Trying to keep the colors clean became a challenge with all the different tints in each petal. I was so glad when I felt that everything came together. I rushed to photograph it. To my surprise there was the tiniest bug crawling on it. At first I thought it was a piece of lint but it started to move. So I just waited for it to get to the edge and I flicked it away. What can I say? Things like that make me laugh.

I painted this from a photo I took outside. (Sunlight gives such a wonderful light.) Then I decided to paint the background out with the darker color. This makes a huge contrast for the natural sunlight. The vase was another goodwill find, love the retro-look. The berries and branch were added to give it a very delicate feel. Also notice the stripes, flowers and dots your mother always told you never to wear together or you will look like a clown. Well I used all of them on this painting!
